We conducted the first of our newly developed ‘Advanced Rocketry Workshop’ in SMK Badin, Tuaran, Sabah today. The workshop is designed for upper secondary school students with more emphasis on rocket design and aerodynamics.
The students are paired in teams of two and work together to decide on fin design based on the lesson’s module taught to them. They get a free hand in ensuring built quality for launch stability and also exercise their creativity on fins configuration. At the end of the day, their home-grown rockets are tested in real-life situation and gets launched up to 1,000 feet high.
It was raining throughout the whole day in Tuaran, but it did not deter us to successfully launch 10 rockets into the gloomy skies to the delight of the participants and the entire school. We wish to thank the school for having us and 1MDB for the funding provided through their Dana Belia 1Malaysia youth development grant. We truly enjoyed ourselves today and hope that the students from SMK Badin will use this valuable experience to strive and excel in the field of science.
