Sebelum gerhana penuh 22hb Julai 2009, Pulau Yanshanzhen, China Saya telah menyertai rombongan sains yang diketuai oleh En. Sam Gibbs (Aerospace Edu) dan Dr. Chong Hon Yew (USM). Misi kami ialah untuk menyaksikan gerhana matahari penuh yang terpanjang di dalam abad ini, kejadian yang serupa hanya akan diulangi pada tahun 2132. Pulau Yangshanzhen yang berkedudukan di bahagian selatan kotaraya Shanghai terletak tepat pada garisan laluan gerhana matahari yang akan memberikan kegelapan ‘totality’ selama 6 minit.
